After Holger Rune retired in the first round of the Cincinnati Masters at 4-6, 0-2 for his opponent Mackenzie McDonald, Rune’s former coach Patrick Mouratoglou reacted on Instagram.”Back injuries are very paralyzing. You can’t move well and feel pain every time you hit a shot.
I know how it feels as I suffered from it for 6 months this year. I feel sad for @holgerrune because he was very excited to do well in @cincytennis. The positive thing is that in his case, it should heal fast. Let’s move past this and get ready for the @usopen,” said Mouratoglou.
Rune is inspired by his compatriot Caroline Wozniacki
Now recovering from the back injury, Holger Rune can draw inspiration again from Caroline Wozniacki who came back after entering motherhood.
“It was very inspiring to watch a Danish player win a Grand Slam, no one from our country was there succeeded before and seeing her triumph made me believe that I can do it too,” Rune recently said about Wozniacki. “She has an impressive backhand, but men’s and women’s tennis are different; the backhand and her fighting spirit allowed her to become number 1 and to win a Grand Slam: they are her best strengths.”But, even without the inspiration from Wozniacki, Rune is a very motivated player.
“”I’m always very motivated even before he won the Slams. I have my goals that I want to achieve and have chances to achieve it this year also and I’m going to go for it,” Rune said
