Manchester United have seen their chances of signing Sofyan Amrabat swell, with the player and his Fiorentina manager both taking a transfer into their own hands.
The Red Devils remain on the hunt for a new holding midfielder to either play alongside or compete with Casemiro. Sofyan Amrabat is the player atop Man Utd’s shortlist, though as yet, the club have been unable to act.
Explaining why, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported United must sell before they can buy.
However, progress is beginning to be made on several fronts that will free United up to pounce for Amrabat.
Sky Sports claimed Marseille are readying a move for centre-half Eric Bailly. The imminent arrival of back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir will be the final act that unlocks Dean Henderson’s move to Crystal Palace.
Varying sources have reported Amrabat only has eyes for Man Utd despite rival interest from Liverpool.
Now, with less than one week to go until the British transfer deadline rolls around at 11pm on September 1, the player and his Fiorentina manager are attempting to force the move through.
Firstly, Fabrizio Romano reported Amrabat will no longer play or even train for Fiorentina while the summer window remains open.
As such, the Morocco international has not been included in Fiorentina’s matchday squad for their Serie A clash with Lecce on Sunday.
With the situation reaching a critical juncture, Fiorentina boss, Vincenzo Italiano, has called upon his club to sell his star midfielder.
That’s via Florian Plettenberg who tweeted Italiano is “putting pressure on his board to find a solution for the transfer of Amrabat.”
Clearly, the player and his manager both want a speedy resolution and the likeliest outcome now appears a move to Old Trafford.
Of course, that first relies on Man Utd freeing up both space and room to ensure they conform with Financial Fair Play regulations.
